Borsig

Founded in 1837, this long-established Berlin company is a world market leader in the development, design and production of complex systems for the cooling of gases for the chemical and petrochemical industry. Borsig also provides installation and other services for the chemical industry, as well as for the energy technology sector. Following the insolvency of the parent group Babcock-Borsig, Borsig also went into administration in 2003. capiton acquired an interest within the framework of an MBO and a restructuring of liabilities. In this challenging situation, the management team and capiton carved-out the company, and then successfully developed it, resulting in significantly increased turnover and profit. Through two acquisitions in the membrane technology sector for gas separation, Borsig was also able to become a world market leader in this field. In 2008, capiton sold the company to the publicly traded Malaysian company KNM. To date, Borsig is capiton’s most successful investment.
